Bulls to Improve Your Herd

Bulls sold by Blackjack Ridge Cattle Company are guaranteed breeders if not allowed to run with the herd until at least 14 months of age. Bulls sold at 14 months of age or older will have been fertility tested by a veterinarian and a copy of the breeding soundness exam will be provided at time of sale. A bull that settles cows by natural service shall be considered a breeder. As a general rule young bulls should be expected to service the number of cows equal the age of the bull in months (a 14 month old bull should be expected to service 14 cows, etc.).

Health Program

At 3-4 months, all bulls receive vaccinations for blackleg and pinkeye (Alpha-7/MB-1), pasturella (Pulmo-Guard PHM-1), respiratory complex (ViraShield 6) and are wormed. At weaning the same vaccinations are repeated with Vibrio/Lepto added (ViraShield 6 + VL5) as well as a second worming.)

Nutrition

Bulls purchased at 12-24 months of age are still growing and should be fed 10-15 pounds of grain and protein supplement daily along with good quality free choice hay. If possible, supplemental feeding during breeding season is recommended. After breeding season, continued supplemental feeding will support reaching full growth potential.
